Is Something Missing In Our Daily Experience?
A special Philocafe facilitated by the Gurdjieff Foundation of Louisiana devoted to sharing our questions and our understanding of what it means to be present…to be “in the moment”…as we go through our day to day lives. Is it possible to maintain a connection with an inner life in the midst of everyday life? Can attention to what we’re doing support both a movement inward and our manifestations in daily life? What is my understanding of “attention?”
(Location: 4511 Chestnut St Uptown New Orleans)

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th, 7:00 pm
LECTURE & RECEPTION PRE-CHAUTAUQUA EVENT (co-sponsored in collaboration with the New Orleans Lyceum) FREE to the public
Letting Go of What We Think We Know: An Exploration of the Teachings of Georges Ivanovich Gurdjieff
In apparent contrast to the currently popular wish of so many of us to find answers to the suffering; stress and uncertainty of today's world stands a practical, all-encompassing teaching based on the premise that real answers can only be found by first letting go of our firmly entrenched trust in our beliefs and knowledge. To be present in a given moment…is it something I "do" or is it something I allow to happen?
Location: Lecture Hall 114, Miller Building, Loyola University

(The Gurdjieff Foundation of Louisiana has been in existence in the New Orleans area since the late 1970s, originally under the direction of the late John "Lord" Pentland. It continues to study the ideas of Gurdjieff through the varied expressions including the written ideas, the music, and the sacred dances also known as "the movements.")
